Work is continuing on geotechnical surveys under the northbound A249 in Kent, Highways England has announced.
The investigations are being carried out on the route near Sittingbourne due to a large hole caused by a burst water main last week.
The roads agency and a team of specialist engineers are attempting to establish what damage has been caused in order to effectively plan repair work.
It is understood as a result of the damage, the northbound carriageway remains closed between the A2 and the Bobbing junction and is likely to remain closed until at least the end January.
While the southbound A249 remains open, further surveys will be carried out on Tuesday, 26 January to detect any further changes to the site.
Reports from both surveys are not expected until Friday, 29 January.
Signed diversions are in place.
