A sash restoration company director has been fined after a worker fell through an unprotected skylight and broke his wrist.
David Richard Garrett, Director of Sash Restoration Company Dorset Limited, of Henford Road, Ensbury Park, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to an offence under Regulation 9(2) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005, and Regulation 4(1) of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Disease and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) 2013.
He was fined £3,300 with costs of over £1,500.
Salisbury Magistrates' Court heard the employee fell three metres through an unprotected skylight while replacing sash windows at a large manor house on 14 July 2014.
Upon landing, the worker broke his wrist.
An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found the work was not adequately planned to take account of the risk of working near to a fragile surface.
In addition, the incident was not reported by the company and only came to HSE's attention following a query about the incident from an unnamed source.
