Fire crews have extinguished a blaze which broke out at a construction college workshop on Tuesday, 19 January, in Swindon.

Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service were called to Swindon College at around 4:20pm.

A single-storey building used as a plumbing workshop was discovered to be on fire.

The blaze had mostly been extinguished by 9:30pm.

It is understood the fire started in a store room alongside the workshop, with the firefighting operation made more complicated by difficult access to the seat of blaze.

Four people, three men and a woman, were taken to hospital after being reported to have suffered smoke inhalation.

The main College building was unaffected by the fire with staff confirming the site will be open today, 20 January.

An investigation into the incident is now underway.
