The UK Government has granted approval to develop a new electric line connection to link up with the Hinkley Point C (HPC) nuclear power station.
The DECC said the T-pylon structure will form a 'major' part of the projects infrastructure and help HPC 'kick-start' nuclear power within the UK.
The Somerset-based facility will generate a total of 3.2GW and house two UK EPR reactors which can generate enough electricity for around five to six million homes.
Energy and Climate Change Minister Lord Bourne said: "This is a step forward in the Hinkley Point C project, which will play a crucial part in our plan to provide clean, affordable and secure energy for hardworking families and businesses.
"Hinkley represents a major boost for the UK and local economy – powering nearly six million homes and creating more than 25,000 jobs with a significant number for the people of Somerset."
