UK construction output fell by 0.5% in November, according to new figures.

Data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed new work was the biggest culprit for the fall, decreasing by 0.7%, while repair and maintenance (R&M) fell by 0.2%.

The results are the biggest annual drop in output since May 2013, signalling the UK economy may struggle to bounce back as economists predicted.

While within new work there was a 2.3% increase in public other, a 1.7% rise in private industrial and a 0.9% increase in housing, a 4.3% decrease in infrastructure along with a 1.5% dip in private commercial work offset growth.

It is understood construction output would have to increase by 2.6% on a monthly basis in December to avoid dropping in the fourth quarter.
