Work is underway to resurface a stretch of the A66 in Workington, Highways England has announced.
Contractors have begun working on a three mile stretch of the carriageway between Chapel Brow and Stainburn roundabouts.
Works include resurfacing the road, carrying out drainage repairs and painting new road markings.
The route will be closed in both directions between 8pm and 6am every night for three weeks.
Highways England project manager, Peter Gee, said: "This work is part of our regular commitment to repair our existing road network, which is just as important to road users as strategic improvements."
Diversions will be in place.
