House builder Barratt Developments has reported a 9.4% rise in completed units for its half year results.

Overall, 7,626 homes were completed during the first half of 2015, compared to 6,971 units in 2014.

As Britain's biggest house builder, Barratt said the increase keeps it on target to achieve 16,750 completions by its year-end results in June.

In addition, the average selling price of each finished units was up nearly 11% to £281,000, with 'affordable' housing making up 16% of completions.

The house builder also operated from 386 active sites during the period. However, it experienced a decrease in new site openings with 63 new developments opened compared to 96 in 2014.

David Thomas, Chief Executive, said: "We have seen an excellent first half performance, increasing our completions by 9% whilst maintaining our industry leading quality.  We continue to invest for the future, approving the purchase of £559m of land and investing in training and recruitment programmes to help address the need for additional skilled labour.

"Overall, market conditions are good and we remain confident in our outlook for the full year as we continue to execute our strategies: aimed at ensuring disciplined growth, improving key financial metrics through a focus on efficiency and the continued delivery of attractive cash returns."
