A joint venture (JV) between Arup and Atkins has been selected as part of the team tasked with delivering the Thames Tideway Tunnel project.
The Arup Atkins JV will deliver the £416m 'West' section of the scheme, running six kilometres from Acton in West London to Wandsworth in South West London.
Works will include design, construction, commissioning and maintenance following the schemes completion.
The Arup Atkins JV was selected for the works by main contractors BMB, a JV between BAM Nuttall, Morgan Sindall and Balfour Beatty.
Mobilisation work for the 'West' section got underway in September last year and completion is scheduled for 2022.
Alan Belfield, UKMEA Chairman, Arup, said: "The Thames Tideway Tunnel is one of the UK’s most challenging, yet important, infrastructure projects.
"Partnerships such as ours with Atkins will play a pivotal role in driving forward these major feats of engineering and we look forward to working together on this extraordinary project to see the benefits it will provide to the city."
Nick Roberts, UK CEO at Atkins, added: "The Thames Tideway Tunnel will help transform the river and we are very pleased that BMB chose the valuable experience, expertise and approach we’ve developed with Arup from projects such as Crossrail."
As the largest water infrastructure project ever undertaken in the UK, the 25km The Thames Tideway Tunnel is a major upgrade to London's sewer system.
It is anticipated to support the city's population for at least the next 100 years.
