Construction workers are amongst the safest drivers in the UK, according to new data from Aviva.

The insurance agency compiled its information from the Aviva Drive app, which uses smartphone technology to record a motorist's driving style over 200 miles.

It then provides participants with an individual rating out of ten based on how safely they drive.

With over 20,000 drivers registering with the app, Aviva was able to look at which professions scored the highest.

The ten highest scoring occupations (scores between 7.1- 10) are:

• Construction Worker - 68.5%

• Staff Nurse - 67.6%

• Operations Manager - 61.8%

• Social Worker - 58.3%

• Soldier - 57.6%

• Local Government Officer - 57.4%

• Support Worker - 55.4%

• IT Manager - 54.8%

• Telecommunications Engineer - 54.6%

• Assistant Teacher – 54.5%

Adam Beckett, propositions director for Aviva, said that while there are lots of factors which affect how safely a person drives, it was interesting to see which occupations scored higher than others.

"People can be reassured that the app measurement is specific to the driver in question, so the safer drivers will get a higher rating – whatever their occupation," he said.
