Aviation Minister Robert Goodwill has opened a new £14 million departure lounge at Newcastle International Airport.
The new facility was unveiled today, Monday 14 December.
The redeveloped lounge offers improved services for passengers before they take off on domestic or international journeys.
Speaking during his visit, Minister Goodwill said: "Newcastle Airport is a shining example of how our regional airports lead the way with their service and range of destinations.
"The new departure lounge underlines Newcastle Airport’s importance as an engine of growth for the north-east and the Northern Powerhouse."
David Laws, Chief Executive at Newcastle International Airport, added: "I am delighted the minister has officially opened our new departure lounge.
"Our passengers’ journeys, whether business or pleasure, begin right here at the airport and it’s vital we give them the best possible experience."
The new facilities are the latest boost for the north-eastern airport which handled over 4.5 million passengers last year and contributes an estimated £646 million a year to the regions economy.
