A new £60 million outpatient department has been opened at a hospital in Swansea.

The new unit at Morriston Hospital was unveiled by First Minister Carywn Jones last month.

It was designed by architects IBI Group and built by BAM Construction.

The BREEAM 'Excellent' facility represents the second phase of the £102m 'Health Vision Swansea' redevelopment and was undertaken by Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

The two-storey building houses a new renal unit along with radiology, lung function, phlebotomy, dental specialities, ophthalmology, paediatrics, fracture clinic, and endoscopy suites.

Modern maxillo-facial laboratories have also been developed, including a unique South Wales cleft lip and palate service.

Other features include an Integrated Education Centre offering a range of training facilities including lecture theatres and clinical skills laboratories.

IBI Studio Associate, Lindsay Gibbon, said: "The design is focused on user wellbeing, creating a welcoming and non-institutional environment full of light, colour and art to enrich and support the patient journey."
