A new modern engineering and exhibition centre is to be built at the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) headquarters in London.
The £850,000 project is being funded by seven leading contractors; Mace Foundation, AECOM, Carillion, Costain, Kier, VINCI Construction UK and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff.
Together the firms have pledged over £300,000, with ICE promising to match industry donations towards the project.
The centre forms part of ICE's 'Shaping the World' appeal and will be an interactive space for young people, teachers, parents and practicing engineers.
The 'founding partners' will be invited to display structural and digital models, installations and case studies at the facility.
ICE is now calling on the rest of the industry to join as partners and raise the remaining funds needed for the project.
Mace CEO Mark Reynolds, said: "At Mace we are committed to doing more than just construct buildings, we want to contribute to the communities in which we work. It is vital for all of us to inspire and engage the next generation to join our industry and the engineering exhibition and learning centre will play a crucial role in this endeavour."
