A section of the A1 carriageway is to be closed this weekend to allow bridge upgrade work to take place, Highways England has announced.
Contractors will install permanent steel bridge beams on the bridge which carries Low Street over the A1.
The project aims to upgrade the dual carriageway to a three lane motorway between Leeming and Barton.
When completed, the scheme will create a continuous motorway-standard route between London and Newcastle.
The road will be closed overnight between 8pm - 8am on Friday, 11 December and between 8pm until 10am on the 12 and 13 of December.
Highways England assistant project manager Charlotte Wright said: "It is vital to install these steel bridge beams now to enable further work to take place on the £380 million improvement scheme.
"We will be using new large cranes to lift the beams into place so need to close the road to do this safely."
Signed diversions will be put in place.
