Demolition works have taken place at a housing development in south-east London.
Nearly 700 homes, 239 of which will be 'affordable', are to be built on the former Connaught Estate in Woolwich.
The works are part of the £300 million Woolwich Estates Regeneration, comprising of the phased demolition of Connaught, Morris Walk and Maryon Road/Grove Estates.
In total, over 1,000 units will be replaced with 1,500 mixed tenure homes.
The development is being delivered in partnership with the Royal Borough of Greenwich, housing developer Lovell and asra Housing Group.
The first group of 'affordable' homes will be completed in February 2017, with the homes ready for sale from May 2017.
Councillor Chris Kirby said: "The regeneration of the Connaught Estate forms part of the Royal Borough's £300 million programme to create modern housing as well as training, employment and business opportunities for the community. The overall programme will create new housing and new communities which will become an integral part of the wider regeneration of Woolwich town centre. We are therefore excited that construction is now commencing on site, which will bring the delivery of much needed housing and amenities for local people."
Lovell regional director Michael O'Farrell said: "We're proud to be working with the Royal Borough and asra to deliver this wide-ranging programme which will make a huge difference to the local community, providing a lasting legacy of benefits for Woolwich."
