WS Atkins is to acquire the nuclear services division of US-based EnergySolutions, it has been announced.
The company has signed a £206m ($318m) deal to purchase the Projects, Products and Technology (PP&T) sector.
The business currently employs 650 people in a wide range of services for the decontamination and decommissioning of hazardous nuclear facilities and for the environmental remediation of nuclear waste storage sites.
As of 30 September, PP&T has gross assets of $171.3m.
Professor Dr Uwe Krueger, CEO of Atkins, said: "This acquisition accelerates our nuclear strategy and creates a global platform. Our combined business is well positioned in all the major nuclear markets in North America, UK, Europe, Middle East and Asia Pacific.
"In the US, which has the largest nuclear fleet, we are at the top table for decommissioning, site operations, major projects and consultancy.
"This complements our acquisition last year of Nuclear Safety Associates (NSA)."
