Road Improvement Works To Start In North Yorkshire

Construction News Image
Major resurfacing and road improvement works are to be carried out 3.5 miles of the A64 in Tadcaster, North Yorkshire, Highways England has announced.

As part of a £1.4 million scheme, 3,000 reflective road studs will be replaced and road markings will be repainted. The work will be carried out overnight between 8pm and 6am, starting on Monday 23 November, and is expected to be completed in January.

Highways England project manager Steven Wright said: "It's essential that this work takes place so that drivers can benefit from smoother and safer journeys, and a well-maintained road network.

"We'll be resurfacing an area of road equivalent to nearly 8 football pitches as well as replacing thousands of reflective road studs, so drivers really will notice a difference when the work is completed.

"We're carrying out the improvement work overnight, when the road is at its quietest, to avoid causing disruption to traffic during the day."

The work will take place in four phases. The first phase will be between Headley Bar and Bramham on the westbound carriageway followed by the eastbound carriageway between Bramham and Headley Bar later in December.

The third phase will also be completed in December and involves the resurfacing of the Headley Bar eastbound exit slip road.

The final phase is the resurfacing of the westbound carriageway between Tadcaster Ings and Headley Bar. This work is due to start on Monday 11 January and should last for approximately 2 weeks.

All the work will be carried out overnight using road closures and clearly signed diversions will be in place throughout. Drivers are being advised to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time.
