A new app has been released which aims to boost CSCS skills cards and tackle problems caused by counterfeit documents and illegal workers.

The app, called SkillSight, has been launched by Reference Point and aims to improve card monitoring by contractors.

It allows cards to be easily read while adding training and qualifications to the built-in microchip.

Almost two million people within the construction industry hold a Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

However, it is understood only a small amount of cards are electronically checked and use modern technology to flag problems.

Graham Wren, Chief Executive of CSCS, said: "Reference Point worked closely with CSCS to develop a smartcard solution and have been the driving force in the ongoing development of the technology and associated apps.

"Our partnership with them is extremely important in driving forward our objective of providing the construction industry with a means to certify that individuals working on construction sites have the required training and qualifications for the type of work they carry out."
