A contract award has been reached on the final school of the Barking, Dagenham and Newham batch of the Priority School Building Programme (PSBP).
Wates Construction and the Education Funding Agency (EFA) have agreed a deal worth approximately £48m for the Eastbrook School in Dagenham.
The EFA's batch of schools also includes Little Ilford School in Newham and Eastbury School in Barking.
Build work on Eastbrook School, designed by Jestico and Whiles, will see the existing secondary school expand its capacity from 1,800 to 2,200.
The project also includes creating a 630-place primary school with 39 nursery places along with external landscaping comprising new grass pitches and play areas.
Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2017.
Ian Vickers, Regional MD for Wates, said: "As the final school in the Barking, Dagenham and Newham priority schools batch, this project marks a significant milestone in the EFA's programme to deliver brand new school environments across the country."
