Bowmer & Kirkland (B&K) has been appointed to develop a £65m mixed-use scheme in Sheffield.

The New Era Square project involves building a 21-storey mixed leisure, commercial and residential development near St Mary's church on the site of a Chinese supermarket.

Approximately 700 student rooms will be developed in the main tower and lower rise buildings, while around 70,000 sq ft of retail and business incubator office space will be built on the lower floors.

The first phase of works includes what will be Sheffield's tallest tower in ten years, while K H Oriental supermarket is to relocate into the building allowing phase two to begin.

The project is to be completed by 2018.

Jerry Cheung, MD of New Era Development, said: "As well as providing leisure and residential facilities, the China Business Incubator within the development will become a hub for promoting international trade, focusing on opportunities for businesses to increase their presence in China and to bring more inward business from the Far East.
