A self-employed plumber has been fined after a boiler was left with numerous faults and in a dangerous state at a property in Exeter.

The Health and Safety Executive prosecuted Michael Dunn, of Luscombe Crescent, Paignton, who pleaded guilty to two breaches of gas safety regulations.

He was fined £1,000 with £1,000 in costs.

Exeter Magistrates Court was told that Mr Dunn installed a new gas boiler at a customer's home in Hillyfield Road.

However, the new boiler leaked gas, while the boiler flue was not installed to the manufacturer's instructions and proper standards.

Mr Dunn then went on to ignore repeated concerns by the homeowners that they could smell gas.

Wales and West Utilities were then called to the attended site and discovered the gas leak.
