Dutch Firm To Install Foundations At Wind Farm

Dutch company Van Oord has secured a contract to transport and install the 87 foundations for an offshore wind farm in the UK.

The contractor reached an agreement with DONG Energy of Denmark for the works at Walney Extension offshore wind farm in the Irish Sea.

The wind farm, which consists of 40 Vestas and 47 Siemens wind turbines, has a capacity of 660MW and will deliver sustainable energy to 460,000 households after its completion in 2018.

Van Oord is to transport the foundations, monoplies and transition pieces from various suppliers in Denmark, Germany and the UK.

It will then begin installing foundations at the site in spring 2017

Johan van Wijland, MD of Van Oord Offshore Wind Projects, said: "After signing the contract for the transport and installation of the foundations for the Burbo Bank Extension offshore wind farm earlier this year, we are proud that DONG is again showing its appreciation for our approach to constructing offshore wind projects."
