Mace Reaches Milestone On Apartment Development

Mace Group has reached a construction milestone on an apartment scheme in London.

The company achieved the 'golden brick' milestone on its Highpoint development, marking the construction of the second floor structural slab for the tower section of the project.

The 457-apartment scheme is being developed on Greater London Authority land at Elephant and Castle.

Apartment utility cupboards and the bathrooms have been developed off-site as modules and the terrace building will have a sustainable cross laminated timber structure.

The tower superstructure uses some pre-cast concrete components that also reduces time on site.

The milestone was marked with Deputy Mayor for Housing, Land and Property on 23 October.

David Grover, COO for Investment at Mace, said: "We have made a huge amount of progress on this development and we are extremely happy and proud of what this project has become.

"The building's majority PRS scheme will mean that the tenants will live in a safe, purposed designed and professionally managed building, as opposed to being exposed to the risks of renting from individual landlords."

Mr Blakeway added: "Ensuring enough developable land is available is at the heart of the housing challenge, which is why the GLA has now released 99 per cent of its sites to build 40,000 homes and meet the complex needs of a growing population, including this fantastic site at Elephant and Castle and other mix tenure developments in East London."

The project, which was stalled for a few years, has been reignited by Mace's investment team and will be completed by early 2018.
