Galliford Flood Alleviation Scheme Wins Award

Construction News Image
Galliford Try's flood alleviation scheme in south London has won an accolade at the British Construction Industry Awards.

The £6m scheme for Thames Water won the Sustainability Award at the ceremony held in London on 14 October.

It was carried out by MGJV, a joint venture between Galliford Try and Morrison Utilities, under its AMP5 framework with Thames Water.

The project included the construction of three underground geo-cellular stormwater detention tanks, bunds, walls, detention basins and wetland areas along with liner drainage channels.

Finished in December 2014, the project required moving 12,000 cubic metres of earth and safeguards against a one-in-75 year flood.

Much of the work occurred within the Grade II-listed Dulwich Park.

George Sloss, Framework Director for Galliford Try, said: "The project was a triumph of partnership and co-ordination not only between ourselves and our two clients but also the many stakeholders including the Environment Agency, Dulwich Estates, Friends of Dulwich and Belair Parks, and Dulwich Sports Trust whose grounds were also being used for floodwater storage."

In addition, two other Galliford Try schemes were recognised at the awards, the Littlehaven Promenade and Sea Wall in South Shields and the University of Nottingham Engineering & Science Library development.
