HLF Gives Grant Towards Restoration Project

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has given a £246,800 grant towards a restoration scheme in Cornwall.

A total of £3.4m in funding has been earmarked for the Luxulyan Valley Heritage Restoration project.

The project is to restore the 'industrial heritage' within the valley, which includes a complex system of leats and structures built between 1839-1842.

The council and Cornwall Heritage Trust now has two years to submit fully developed proposals to secure the total funding.

A separately funded hydroelectric turbine, powered by water from the repaired leats, will also be developed.

Councillor Joyce Duffin said: "Luxulyan Valley is a hugely important part of Cornwall's industrial and natural heritage and is of national and international significance.

"To be given the funding green light by HLF is a major boost."
