A maintenance company has been fined after a worker was injured from falling from a roof.

Aspect Maintenance Services, of Rufus Business Centre, Ravensbury Terrace, London, pleaded guilty to an offence under Regulation 4(1) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005.

It was fined £20,000 with costs of over £4,700.

Southwark Crown Court heard how an employee of the company was working as a roofing engineer on a property in Tooting in February 2014.

He was repairing the roof when he slipped and fell, landing on a table on a patio area below.

His injuries included a shattered elbow, a broken jaw, tissue damage to his knee and a facial injury.

There was no edge protection on the roof at the time of the accident.

In addition, the company had also failed to ensure that the roof work being undertaken was properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out in a safe manner.

Health and Safety Executive (HSE) Inspector Gavin Pugh said: "All work on roofs should be sufficiently risk assessed before any work is carried out. Edge protection or other equally effective safety measures should be in place for anything other than very short term work."
