Work to replace important bridge components at a junction on the M25 will begin later this month, Highways England has announced.

The work at junction 29 in Essex involves the replacement of bridge expansion joints which have reached the end of their serviceable life.

The joints help to protect the structural integrity of a bridge by allowing it to expand and contract with seasonal changes in temperature.

Work on the junction will take place overnight between 20 – 28 September.

Overnight closures will be in place between 10pm and 5:30am on Mondays to Thursdays, between 11pm and 6am on Friday and between 10pm and 5:30am on Sundays.

Highways England's Asset Manager, Ian Clabon, said: "We are carrying out this improvement work at night to minimise disruption to road users. It's essential that the work takes place so that we can keep journeys safe and reduce the risk of unplanned maintenance in the future."

Further work to replace expansion joints at various locations on the M25 will take place later in the year.
