Salford City Council has given the green light for the development of almost 2,000 new houses.

Seven developments have been granted approval to meet demand for new homes in the city.

It brings the total number of homes granted planning permission to over 17,800 as part of an estimated £3.5bn investment planned for the city over the next ten years.

One of the latest schemes to be approved includes four 26-storey buildings at Salford Quays, housing 1,100 apartments.

The development, on land off Michigan Avenue, also includes 1,573 sq m of space for shops and/or community facilities.

The project is being led by X1 Developments and Knight Knox International.

Commenting on the planning decisions, City Mayor Ian Stewart said: "This is a fantastic level of growth and will provide much needed new homes, new jobs, new businesses and opportunities for local residents."
