Highways England has announced a £480,000 project will begin next week to tackle flooding along the A595 in Cumbria.
The six week scheme will improve verge drainage and footpaths along the route between the junction with the A66 at Bridgefoot and further south at Winscales.
The work will begin on 7 September and is due to be completed on 16 October.
Highways England Project Manager, Peter Gee, said: "This is important work to give road users safer and smoother journeys along a section of the A595 which has been prone to flooding after heavy rain."
The work involves replacing poorly-performing filter drains with new drains as well as reconstructing footpaths.
Temporary traffic lights will be in place between 9:30am and 3:30pm, as well as 8pm and 6am, due to work requiring off-peak lane closures.
