UCATT has announced fresh strike action is to take place against a housing association (HA) based in Staffordshire.

Workers at Aspire Housing are staging a 24 hour walkout on 1 September. The strike is taking place due to the the company refusing to meet unions or seek meditation via ACAS over plans to cut workers' terms and conditions from 1 October.

The cuts include a reduction in sick pay, an increase in hours and the ending of tool allowances and insurance guarantees.

New starters will also have their pay and holiday entitlement cut, while the company has refused to guarantee these changes will not be introduced for existing staff.

The proposals will affect the organisation's 103 manual workers.

Shan Lee, Regional Secretary for UCATT Midlands, said: "The company has refused to negotiate with unions and has refused to even enter into negotiations at ACAS. Given their stance the unions had no option to take further industrial action. Inevitably this will affect tenants, but it must be understood this has been caused entirely by the attitude of Aspire’s management."

Four days of industrial action were previously taken in July.
