HLF Awards £2.1m Grant For Town Hall Restoration

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) has awarded a grant of over £2.1m towards the restoration of a town hall in Northamptonshire.

The funding was given to Brackley Town Council to repair and upgrade the 'vulnerable' Georgian Town Hall building as a rejuvenated community venue.

The historic hall was built between 1704 and 1707 to unite the villages of Lower and Upper Brackley.

The investment by the HLF will pay for repairs to the stonework and clock tower, in addition to the installation of new facilities including toilets, a kitchen and a lift.

The restoration of the Grade II listed building is being supported by experts at the Georgian Group and Historic England. It is understood the Lottery Funding will also be matched by £500,000 from both South Northamptonshire Council and Brackley Town Council.

Councillor Peter Rawlinson said: "After three years of hard work we were delighted to learn that our application to the National Lottery has been successful and that the restoration of the town hall can now go ahead."
