Morgan Sindall has been appointed to deliver a £4.5 million expansion of a number of schools in Chelmsford.
The Moulsham Infant and Junior School project is being delivered for Essex County Council and involves the expansion of the infant and junior schools.
Together, the schools form the Moulsham Campus Alliance with Oaklands Infant School.
The Morgan Sindall project team is expanding the infant school by developing four new classrooms and a school hall, which will be designed to link seamlessly with the existing building.
The project team will also remodel areas in the existing building to develop a new teaching space.
Moulsham Junior School will be increased by an additional two classrooms and the existing school hall will be expanded along with the creation of kitchen facilities.
A new library hub will be developed as an additional learning resource for teachers and pupils.
The Morgan Sindall project team will also undertake external landscaping, developing an all-weather pitch for the junior school.
Gavin Napper, Morgan Sindall Area Director, said: "The project at Moulsham Infant and Junior Schools will provide much-needed extra space, allowing the school to accommodate additional pupils at the end of the calendar year and cater for rising demand from families in the local area.
"Much of the work will be modular construction, allowing the units to be installed during the summer holidays when the school is closed to pupils.
"This is just one of the many safeguards we will put in place to ensure the project is safely delivered on time.
"This will also mitigate the risks of building in a live school environment."
