Wates Construction has started a £15 million interior fit-out of the University of Birmingham and Rolls-Royce’s new High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC).

The works mark a 'significant' milestone in the ongoing development of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) campus on Antsy Park in Coventry.

Wates will install specialist research and development equipment for advanced manufacturing, along with all mechanical and electrical systems.

The fit-out works form the second phase of the £60 million HTRC development.

Wates will continue its role as main contractor at the scheme following its completion and handover of the 5,800 sq m new-build project this month.

Richard Scarrot, Business Unit Director for Wates, said: "Having recently completed the base-build, our team are very well placed to carry out the specialist interior installations at HTRC – a project that demands exceptional quality and meticulous logistical management."

The centre sits alongside the MTC's new £30 million Aerospace Research Centre and the £36 million Lloyds Bank Advanced MTC, both of which were built by Wates.

The project is to be completed in September.
