Ballot Begins For Aspire Housing Association Workers

Members of construction union UCATT employed by Aspire Housing Association have started balloting following the firms plans to cut its workers.

The dispute is a result of Aspire attempting to force workers' to accept poorer conditions. The organisation has threatened to dismiss workers who refuse to sign up to the new terms and conditions.

Aspire plans to cut sick pay entitlement from 6 months to 3 months. Major cuts to pay and holiday entitlement will be introduced for new starters and the company has indicted that these cuts could in the future affect all staff.

Shaun Lee, Regional Secretary for UCATT Midlands, said: "We have been forced to ballot our members having exhausted every possibility to resolve this dispute by negotiation. The company is being entirely unreasonable and we will not stand idly by and allow our members conditions to be slashed."

Industrial action will start in July if members vote in favour.
