Morgan Sindall Tops Out Bournemouth Development

Morgan Sindall has held a topping out ceremony after reaching a key milestone in its Arts University Bournemouth development.

The company is building a £1.7 million drawing studio for the university.

The development is a freestanding steel pre-fabricated pavilion specifically designed by architect Professor Sir Peter Cook.

The studio will include a large north-light, a rear clerestory window light that gives a softer light from the rear wall, a discrete light that filters under a bench on the east side of the building and a graded wash of light that feeds in along the curved entrance.

The pre-fabricated structure has been imported from Germany and fixed onto the existing structure.

It has been treated to give a continuous white surface. The internal surfaces will be white with a grey floor and an exterior of curved blue steel.

Jon Daines, Special Works Director at Morgan Sindall, said: "The new facility at Arts University Bournemouth is distinct in its creativity. The building will provide a wonderful facility for students above and beyond traditional teaching spaces.

"The topping out ceremony is a great way to celebrate the progress made on the project and the Drawing Studio is really starting to take shape ahead of completion."

The project is due for completion in 2015.
