The Kier Group has been awarded a £22 million contract to reconfigure and refurbish a hospital for the Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust (MYHT).

The company will carry out both refurbishment and new build works for Dewsbury and District Hospital.

Works include a new main entrance to provide a central focal point for patients, visitors and staff.

Kier will complete the work in two phases, starting later this year by relocating services into the Ridings building and Service Centre.

Phase two will involve developing the new main entrance.

Kevin Oxley, MYHT Director responsible for capital project developments, said: "We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kier as our P21+ partner for the Dewsbury Hospital redevelopment.

"Kier have a long and distinguished track record in both hospital redevelopment and new builds. We look forward to them bringing their experience and expertise to this important project."

The contract was awarded under the three year ProCure 21+ framework along with four other healthcare projects.

Altogether, the five contracts are worth £247 million.
