Leeds & Yorkshire Housing Association (LYHA) has announced work is underway on a residential development in Barnsley.

The £2.2 million development by LYHA will build 25 homes at Aldham House Lane in Wombwell.

The scheme consists of 20 bungalows and five houses designed by architects Acanthus WSM.

Several of the bungalows are being built to support individuals with mobility issues.

The project has been partly funded with a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency.

LYHA worked in partnership with Barnsley Council to acquire the land at Aldham House Lane.

Joanna Chambers, Development Manager at LYHA said: "Barnsley is a fantastic place and we are delighted to bring additional high-quality homes to an area where they are much-needed.

"These homes are extremely cost-effective for our customers to run with the added bonus of producing low carbon emissions which is good news for the environment."

The homes will be developed by Termrim Construction.
