PP O'Connor has announced work is underway on a wastewater treatment plant in Greater Manchester.
The company was appointed by Celtic Technologies to carry out the bulk earthworks, remediation and ground stabilisation within the existing Davyhulme Wastewater plant.
The site will form part of the larger development strategy being undertaken by partners Laing O'Rourke and Imtech (LORI) on behalf of United Utilities.
Plans include to manage the asbestos risk and segregate soils which are geo-technically and chemically suitable for use without further treatment.
The works will generally involve sorting, processing and re-engineering 250,000m3 of the existing topography.
Celtic Technologies will carry out the removal of several redundant seep digester tanks and the potential treatment of any resultant sludges.
Piling platforms will be established and imported aggregate piling mats placed.
The upgrades are expected to improve the quality of water entering the Manchester Ship Canal and take 36 months to complete.
