Berkeley Group has announced the opening of a new regeneration development in London.

The Southwark Development was built on top of a derelict brownfield site, with plans to develop over 500 homes on the site.

Seven buildings will be developed ranging from ten to 14 storeys in height.

Work for the first phase of regeneration was completed in less than two years via a partnership between Southwark Council, St James, Peabody Group and the Greater London Authority (GLA).

The regeneration consists of:

• 62 shared ownership apartments, 106 social rented apartments, and 14 social rented family homes in a mix of one, two and three bedroom styles.

• A new community centre which can be used by the local secondary school.

• Seven new apprenticeships and training for 34 unemployed local borough residents.

• A car club, improvements to local highways, and a contribution to the local children's play area.

Councillor Mark Williams said: "This development delivers affordable homes at social rent, while also helping local residents get onto the property ladder with shared ownership homes."
