Durham University To Receive New Research Centre

Work to develop a new research centre for Durham University is to begin next month.

Development of the Ogden Centre for Fundamental Physics is expected to start in June and will cost over £11 million. Architect Daniel Libeskind of Studio Daniel Libeskind (SDL) designed the building.

The Ogden Trust donated over £3 million in funding towards the project while the Wolfson Foundation gave a further £1.5 million.

The centre will be built next to Durham University's Department of Physics and will house the Institute for Computational Cosmology (ICC) and the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology (IPPP).

Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education, Prof. Tom Ward, said: "The University is excited to be embarking upon the next phase of this project to develop an iconic new building that reflects the high international standing of the Institute for Computational Cosmology and the Institute for Particle Physics Phenomenology."

Work is set to be completed by Autumn 2016.
