Blacksmith Utilises Firms Specialist Services

A local blacksmith has utilised a galvanizing firm’s expertise for a unique sculpture which has recently been featured on a BBC1 nature programme.

Toby Winterbourn Artist Blacksmith – a highly skilled team of blacksmiths based in North Elmham – used the specialist hot-dip treatment services of Acrow Galvanizing to produce its Cow Parsley ‘Gone to Seed’ sculpture, which appeared on BBC1’s Glorious Gardens.

Standing at 12 feet tall with ten seed heads and spanning six metres wide, the sculpture was designed and manufactured by the company for permanent situ at the popular scenic gardens of East Ruston Old Vicarage in Norwich.

Toby Winterbourn explained: "We’ve worked with Acrow Galvanizers for over two years now and it’s been fantastic. Usually we enjoy producing natural and rustic pieces, but quite often we want to make something more contemporary which is where galvanizing comes in. Not only does it protect the sculptures from usual weathering, but it provides a beautiful finish, fitting well in an environment of natural greenery."

Acrow Galvanizing, part of Wedge Group Galvanizing, provided its specialist treatment to over 1,000 nails and 60 metres of steel for the piece. The firm’s Sales Manager, John Nicholson, commented: "It’s really rewarding to galvanize such an impressive sculpture to give it that finishing touch which has captivated many, including viewers and visitors of Glorious Gardens. We look forward to working with the team in the months and years to come."

Wedge Group Galvanizing is the largest hot-dip galvanizing organisation in the UK with a history dating back over 150 years. With 14 plants strategically placed across the country, the firm offers a truly national galvanizing service.
