The UK has overtaken Germany and India in the world ranking for utility scale solar installations.
A surge of solar fitting projects in the first quarter of 2015 has increased the UK's solar plants to 408, with a combined Megawatt (MW) capacity of 3,610.1MWac.
The UK is now third behind the United States and China.
The company who lead the increased activity was Lightsource RE, which now holds 700MWac of utility-scale solar capacity.
Chief Executive of Lightsource, Nick Boyle, said: "The UK has an extremely competitive ground-mount solar market and we are delighted to be amongst those at the forefront – we installed more than 300MWp in March alone.
"I still believe there is huge untapped potential."
Almost 1.5GW of installations were completed before the 31st of March, when solar power stations over 5MW became ineligible for the Renewables Obligation (RO) incentive mechanism.
