Hy-Ten Limited has been fined £13,000 and must pay £7,000 in costs as well as a £120 victim surcharge after two tonnes of steel rebar being moved by a crane fell onto a worker, breaking his legs.
The firm pleaded guilty to a breach of Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974.
Health and Safety Executive (HSE) prosecuted the company after finding the task gave rise to substantial risks which should have been identified in a suitable and sufficient risk assessment, embodied a safe system of work and implemented with appropriate training.
