Balfour Beatty Wins £9.3m Contract

Construction firm Balfour Beatty has scooped a £9.3 million contract.

The firm is to build a new road bridge over the M1 for Leicestershire County Council through the Midlands Highways Alliance Framework.

The project will connect the New Lubbesthorpe Sustainable Urban Extension (NLSUE) development to the road network in the east and provide better access to local facilities and employment for thousands of people set to live there in the coming years.

The 52m span bridge will be built from composite steel and reinforced concrete with a pier located in the M1 central reserve. The project also includes the construction of approximately 350m of two lane single-carriageway roads, foot and cycle ways.

Balfour Beatty was awarded a place on the Midlands Highways Alliance in part for its commitment to offer employment to the previously unemployed and new skills and formal training to local people. Through this scheme Balfour Beatty will be providing opportunities for up to sixteen people, including offering two apprenticeship places.
