Galliford Try has started building work on a new school to replace the existing buildings at Longbenton Community College in North Tyneside.

The layout of the new school will make it easier for students and staff to travel around the campus.

Longbenton Community College is one of four schools in North Tyneside - along with John Spence High School, Marden High and Whitehouse Primary - to be built as part of the Government-funded Priority Schools Building Programme which is seeing at least £30 million spent on these new schools over the next two years.

Cllr Ian Grayson, North Tyneside Council's Cabinet Member for Children, Young People and Learning said: "I'm very pleased that work has started at Longbenton to deliver this wonderful new school. Our young people are receiving high quality education and in September next year this will be taking place in a state-of-the-art building with facilities that are second to none."
