Students from Doncaster visited the Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) site this week as part of an apprenticeship showcasing event held by Carillion.
Students aged 13 to 16 from Rossington All Saints Academy visited the FARRRS site on March 11 during National Apprenticeship Week.
The visit followed Carillion's attendance at the academy in February as part of a Business in the Community (BITC) Employability Day.
Carillion's apprentices have been involved on the FARRRS scheme over the past 12 months, acquiring 'hands-on' experience of major civil engineering works, basic engineering skills and the setting out and surveying of road and bridge works.
FARRRS is a £28.5m project for Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council set to be completed in 2016 by main contractors Carillion.
Mayor of Doncaster Ros Jones said: "The FARRRS development is a hugely significant project for Doncaster, and I am really glad that apprentices have played an active role in its delivery. I am passionate about creating apprenticeship opportunities for the young people of our borough, this is why 600 new apprenticeships have already been introduced during my time as Mayor.
"I hope that the students enjoy the experience of learning more about apprenticeships, as they can be an excellent route into employment and further training."
This visit saw year 9, 10 and 11 students learn about civil engineering apprenticeships and the importance of health and safety, tour the site and get involved with 'hands-on' group activities.
