Trade store Screwfix has recently leased a newly refurbished energy efficiency unit in Hastings.

Hastings Borough Council was the lead partner in a project within the EU Interreg IVA 2 Seas Programme, called Answers to the Carbon Economy (ACE). ACE explores options for creating low carbon industrial estates and reducing emissions on existing estates.

The council identified six existing industrial units suitable for refurbishment at Theaklen Drive which included the Screwfix units. The project saw a total of £593,000 of investment from the Council and the European Regional Development Fund to refurbish these units.

Council leader, Cllr Jeremy Birch ,who attended the opening of the new Screwfix store at Ponswood Industrial Estate commented: "We welcome Screwfix to the town and from talking to local builders it's considered that they will be a major asset in the town. They have also created 15 new full and part time jobs which is also excellent news for Hastings.

"The renovation of this unit is hoped to make the building up to 25% more energy efficient overall with reduced energy bills for lighting and heating. It also extends the life of the industrial unit. We look forward to working with Screwfix to improve the 'green' credentials of the Estate."
