Plans have been unveiled for a potential £75m investment in social and affordable housing in Dover by 2028.

The plans are outlined in the Council Budget and Medium Term Financial Plan, which also recommends a District Council Tax freeze for 2015/16, the second successive year in which the district's residents have seen no increase from the district council.

The plans are due to be discussed at a Cabinet meeting today (2 February), and will be presented to Full Council on 4 March.

Councillor Paul Watkins, Leader of Dover District Council, said: "We're exploring options for the delivery of up to 500 new affordable homes, including building new council houses and working with registered social landlords to unblock any obstacles to affordable housing on new developments.

"We're delivering our vision for a broader range and quality of housing stock across the district. With our Core Strategy and Land Allocations Plan both now adopted, and the robust financial position of our Housing Revenue Account, we can now pursue a more ambitious plan to build more affordable homes."
