An annual apprenticeship programme has been launched in Salford.

Salix Homes are looking for applicants to join its apprenticeship recruitment programme, which aims to help people out of work learn new skills.

The scheme, in its third year, has taken on nine local people, all of which have gone on to secure full-time jobs.

The apprenticeships, which are run in conjunction with procurement consortium Procure Plus, start in April and are open to anyone in Salford from age 16, including the long-term unemployed, ex-offenders and NEETS.

Jonathan Drake, head of neighbourhood services at Salix Homes, said: "Salix Homes is investing significantly in Salford thanks to tenants voting to transfer their homes to us, so we want to use that investment as best we can to ensure we create as many employment and training opportunities for local people as possible.

"The housing industry provides a fantastic opportunity for people out of work to learn and gain new skills, so I'd urge anyone who is thinking about starting an apprenticeship or looking for work to come along to one of our open days to see how we can help you change your life for the better."
