Residents interested in building their own homes are being urged to sign up to Oldham Council's new online register.

The register is part of the councils plans to make it easier for people who would like to build their own houses to get their projects off the ground.

The register has been set up specifically for residents interested in custom and self-build opportunities.

Councillor Dave Hibbert, Cabinet Member for Housing, Planning and Highways, said: "We are starting to find out how we can make it easier for people who want to build their own homes and as well as offering information and support this register is part of the process.

"As a co-operative council, we want to offer residents the opportunity to develop and build their own homes and contribute to the regeneration of the borough.

"Custom build homes are often cheaper, greener, more affordable and more innovatively designed than standard market housing.

"They offer a real alternative to buying 'off the peg' houses that may not meet your household's needs."
