Construction union UCATT has appointed Neil Andrews as its new Chair.

He was elected by the union's Executive Council.

Mr Andrews succeeds Neil Vernon whose terms of office had been completed. Mr Vernon remains a member of the Executive Council representing the Midlands Region.

Mr Andrews is a joiner, he has been a member of the Executive Council since 2001 and is employed by Tai Calon Community Housing in Blaenau Gwent South Wales.

Mr Andrews, said: "It is an honour to be the first Welsh person to be Chair of UCATT. My priority will be to ensure that UCATT continues to modernise and that we continue to adapt our union to meet the needs of construction workers in the 21st century. I look forward to working with the General Secretary and the new National Secretary, when they are appointed, in building our union."
